Abstract: This paper analyses water resources in Egypt, with its fixed supply and steadily increasing demand. Causes of the rise in demand include population growth, agricultural expansion, industrial development and a rise in living standards. The paper discusses water uses, water use efficiency, institutional and legislative water utilization and management in Egypt. The paper runs three scenarios for the year 2020, each with a different water system, and all show that Egypt will suffer considerable water shortages in the near future. Suggested measures to help overcome anticipated water challenges are provided.
