Abstract: In this interview, Serageldin discusses the historic reliance of Egypt on the Nile, as well as its shortcomings. Predicting a water crisis on the horizon, he mentions solutions for the agricultural sector&rsquo;s extensive water usage, with water-saving techniques such as levelling fields, bio-fortification, farming the sea, and changing from high water-consuming crops to less water-consuming ones. He also advocates the pricing of water services, and talks of needing to price water in exchange for water services and &lsquo;virtual water&rsquo;. Other recommendations include a cooperative, binding international water law between countries.
