This article discusses Egypt's monetary policy and the prerequisites to adopting the inflation targeting framework. The author argues that macroeconomic stabilization, through the use of a combination of transparent fiscal and monetary policies, is one of the most important policy objectives. This contributes to the creation of an economic environment characterized by non-inflationary growth, which will in turn attract and promote private investments and by extent support employment opportunities and improve the standard of living of the community. Essentially, this article highlights how inflation targeting should be considered a last resort, one which comes after other adopted frameworks proved their failure in lowering inflation.
