Summary: This report seeks to understand the nature of the challenges ahead for Egypt and to inform decision makers with insights derived from the development of policies and practices elsewhere. It covers a range of topics as: education system in Egypt, the National Education Strategic Plan 2007-2012, education and labor markets, quality of teachers and teaching, assessment, financing education, strategic priorities and implementation management. The report suggests that different transformation strategies for the Egyptian education such as: improving the learning experiences and outcomes of schooling, reducing the current emphasis on curriculum content coverage and changing classrooms from passive to interactive places of learning, using different assessments to monitor student progress,to improving student learning at all levels, and enhancing the leadership of education.
