قبل أسابيع قليلة تقدمت مصر لمنظمة اليونسكو بطلب تقليص للمساحة المسجلة لمنطقة القاهرة التاريخية. أثار الطلب الكثير من اللغط، لأنه جاء مرتبطًا بالجدل المتعلق بإزالات واسعة نفذتها الحكومة المصرية بحق جبانات القاهرة التاريخية.
رفضت اليونسكو تقليص مساحة القاهرة التاريخية، لكن الجدل لا يزال مستمرًا حول مصير الجبانات التاريخية.

A few weeks ago, Egypt addressed the UNESCO to officially request narrowing down of the scope of the Old Cairo on the world heritage list. The request caused a big controversy because as it relaunched the the ongoing debate ocwe a broad-scale demolitions the Egyptian government has been undertaking in Cairo&rsquo;s historic necropolis, known as the City of the Dead.&nbsp;
The request was declined. However, the debate over the fate of Cairo&rsquo;s historic cemetery continues.&nbsp;
