Dr. Mohamed El Sobky is a Professor of Energy Engineering at Cairo University and is currently a member of the Advisory Board for the Joint Master Program «Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency for the Middle East and North Africa (REMENA)» between Cairo University in Egypt and Kassel University in Germany. Dr. ElSobky worked as a consultant for a number of international projects, and served as CEO of the Egyptian New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA). He also served as the founding executive director of the Electricity and Consumer Protection Regulatory Authority (Egypt ERA).
Discussing the challenges facing the renewable energy sector in Egypt and the needed legislation to operate and invest in this important sector, Dr. El-Sobky explains some of the mechanisms put in place to support renewable energy projects and the reasons for policy changes, such as ending the Feed-in Tariff system.
